What Is the Purple Poppy?

Remembering the animals who served and died in conflicts around the world.

They had no choice but to serve.

A Symbol of Remembrance

The Purple Poppy pays tribute to the horses, dogs, pigeons and other animals that have served during wars and conflicts. Many were injured or killed while carrying people, delivering messages, detecting danger and providing companionship in the most difficult conditions.

Wearing a Purple Poppy keeps their service and sacrifice in people’s thoughts.

The RRC Purple Poppy

Racehorse Rescue Centre has continued Purple Poppy remembrance since 2012. The charity provides a safe and caring home for rescued horses and runs community programmes that bring people and horses together.

In 2017, Racehorse Rescue Centre received a Points of Light award from the UK Prime Minister in recognition of its work changing the lives of vulnerable people while providing a safe environment for rescued horses.

Purple poppy remembrance was promoted by Animal Aid from 2006. When it moved to a purple paw symbol in 2015, Racehorse Rescue Centre continued with the Purple Poppy.
