A future beyond the finish line
From Carlisle, our volunteer-run charity rescues, rehabilitates, retrains and rehomes former racehorses through patient, individual care.

Individual care, not a production line
Racehorses are remarkable athletes, but leaving racing is a major transition. We give each horse the time, support and training needed to recover, learn new skills and move towards a suitable long-term home.
Some horses are ready to begin retraining quickly. Others need extended rest, veterinary attention or a permanent sanctuary home. Our decisions are guided by the welfare and temperament of the individual horse.
Support through every stage
Rescue and sanctuary
We provide safety, routine and lifelong care where rehoming is not the right outcome.
Rehabilitation
Each horse receives an individual plan shaped around physical and emotional wellbeing.
Retraining
Patient, progressive work helps former racehorses adapt to life and activities beyond racing.
Responsible rehoming
We match suitable horses and homes carefully, with the horse’s long-term welfare at the centre.
Powered by volunteers
Our work is carried out by volunteers who give their time, practical skills and professional experience. Because we do not pay staff salaries, donations can be directed towards the horses, their care and the charity’s essential running costs.
There are many ways to help—from stable work and fundraising to specialist support and spreading the word.
Programmes with wider impact
Our rescued horses also help people build confidence, practical understanding and empathy. Alongside equine-assisted learning, we provide educational visits, volunteering opportunities and veterinary EMS placements that give students meaningful experience around horses.
The horses receive calm, thoughtful attention while participants gain skills, confidence and a deeper understanding of equine welfare.
A Points of Light award
In 2017, our founder’s voluntary work was recognised with a Points of Light award from then Prime Minister Theresa May—recognition of the dedication behind the charity and its commitment to racehorse welfare.
